About this service

Everything you need to know.

Cancer rehabilitation is a holistic and individualised approach designed to support you every step of the way, from before treatment begins, through the challenges of active treatment, and into the journey of long-term survivorship. We understand that a cancer diagnosis and its treatments can bring a wide range of physical and emotional changes, impacting your strength, mobility, energy levels, and overall quality of life. Our aim is to proactively address these concerns, help manage symptoms, and empower you to regain function, independence, and well-being. By focusing on your specific needs, we can help optimise your body's readiness for treatment, mitigate side effects, and foster a robust recovery, ensuring you can continue to live as fully and actively as possible.

During your first session, we'll spend dedicated time listening to your story, understanding your diagnosis, treatment plan, and most importantly, your goals and concerns. We'll conduct a thorough physical assessment, which may include evaluating your strength, flexibility, balance, posture, and neurological function, always with sensitivity and respect for your current condition. This comprehensive assessment allows us to collaboratively develop a personalised rehabilitation plan tailored precisely to your unique circumstances. We'll discuss the evidence-based strategies we can employ, explain what to expect, and answer all your questions, ensuring you feel informed and comfortable with the proposed approach.

Progress in cancer rehabilitation is highly individual and often unfolds in stages. Initially, sessions might focus on pain management, reducing swelling, improving range of motion, and addressing immediate post-operative or treatment-related limitations. As your body heals and responds, we'll gradually introduce progressive exercises to build strength, endurance, and restore functional movements. We'll also provide education on energy conservation techniques, scar management, and lifestyle modifications. Regular reassessments will monitor your progress, allowing us to adjust your programme as your needs evolve, ensuring continued positive outcomes and helping you celebrate each milestone on your journey to recovery.

Our rehabilitation services are designed to seamlessly integrate into your everyday life, providing you with practical tools and strategies you can implement at home, at work, and during leisure activities. We empower you with self-management techniques and teach you how to modify activities to suit your current capabilities, slowly and safely building your capacity. The goal is not just to recover from treatment but to thrive beyond it, helping you return to the activities you love and maintain your physical and emotional health long-term. We work closely with your broader healthcare team to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to your care.
